Moody Purple-Brown
Inject a rich dose of color with Sherwin-Williams’ Raisin, a moody dark brown that’s as cozy as it is poised and elegant. “This deep purplish-brown is a versatile dark neutral that is reminiscent of the typical Halloween purple, but with a more sophisticated and elevated darkness,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for the brand. Create contrast and emphasize the shade’s timeless nature by layering it against crisp white trim and decorative molding.

Muted Olive Green
If you’re looking for the perfect backdrop for traditional Halloween shades like orange, purple, and black, look no further than Valspar’s Autumn Grove. “Beyond the sunset shades of Halloween, this dark olive-green signals a transitional time inspired by the deepening of shades in nature,” says Sue Kim, the brand’s director of color marketing.

Black with Green Undertones
Channel the dark side of Halloween with Glidden’s Dark As Night, a cool green-black paint color that delivers luxurious depth. It works just as well in a modern space as it does in a traditional home with ornate architectural features. For an elegant take on a haunted house, the brand’s color expert Ashley McCollum suggests using this color for an accent wall. “Use a tinted black such as Dark As Night to evoke a haunting and dramatic vibe,” she says.

Deep Orange
You can’t escape the Halloween season without a few orange accents, and Benjamin Moore’s Fall Harvest is one of our favorites. The deep orange shade is reminiscent of pumpkins on the vine and fiery autumn sunsets, making it an ideal accent color for everything from front porch planters to bright accent walls.

Deep Auburn
Create a moody space that exudes warmth with Dark Auburn by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams. Part of the brand’s 2024 color collection, this deep tone instantly adds comfort and pairs well with other dark tones as well as softer neutrals and polished metals. “Dark, warm hues feel modern and elevate a space,” says Ashley Banbury, the brand’s color marketing manager. She suggests incorporating the color into an entertaining space such as a basement bar.

Bright Pink
The hot pink hue of Dragon Fruit may be an unconventional Halloween paint color choice, but it’s perfectly fitting for this year’s holiday. “This Halloween, we expect to see lots of hot pink Barbie costumes and this saturated pink is the perfect unexpected hue for this year’s festivities,” Wadden says. Pair it with any of these other Barbiecore-inspired paint colors.

Dark Violet
Give a regal nod to the spirit of Halloween with the appropriately named Shadow by Benjamin Moore. Hannah Yeo, color marketing and development manager at Benjamin Moore, notes that the hue has a chameleon effect that can work with several other colors. “This intriguing shade of blackened violet instantly sets the mood”, she says. It’s a “rich, royal amethyst that can fade into the soft lilac-gray of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal.”

Mustard Yellow-Tan
The saturated fall tones that provide a colorful backdrop to the year’s spookiest day also make for a beautiful Halloween-inspired paint color. Benjamin Moore’s Kurkuma is a rich blend of brown, yellow, and orange that adds a blanket of warmth to any space. When it comes to incorporating Kurkuma into your home, Yeo suggests using it to create a natural color palette. “Bring the beautiful fall scenery indoors by pairing the color with other natural hues such as terracotta, wood tones, and greenery,” she says.

Dark Green with Black Undertones
Adding a touch of nature to your home doesn’t necessarily mean opting for an orange shade; instead, go with the moody charm of Jasper by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams, which is a deep evergreen color with black undertones. “It’s a beautiful foundational color when looking to create tonal balance with other complementing shades to create an easy charming elegance”, Banbury says.

Peachy Burnt Orange
Dip your toes into the burnt orange trend with On Bosque by Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines. A muted burnt orange in a chalk finish, this hue brings all the color of the fall season without looking out of place. The peachy-pink undertones don’t outwardly scream ‘Halloween,’ making it an ideal option for pieces on display year-round, like furniture or an accent wall.

Light Mauve
For an elevated take on a Halloween favorite, go with Mauve Desert by Benjamin Moore. Interior designer Shannon Eddings used this pretty shade of mauve in a girl’s room. “Purple can be very ‘Halloween’ when used right,” she says. “We love a darker purple for a sophisticated take on a moody family room or library, or a mauve when doing a more whimsical space like a kid’s room.”

Deep Blue-Gray
Evoke the moonlit shadows of Halloween night with the sophisticated blue-gray hues of Midnight Blue by Behr. “It’s a deep navy that offers classic elegance while evoking the nighttime spookiness of Halloween,” says Erika Woelfel, VP of color and creative services at Behr. Midnight Blue is a stunning choice for kitchen cabinets, especially when paired with polished chrome hardware to bring out the color’s cool undertones and light wood accents that add warmth to strike the perfect visual balance.

Cool Black
Black is as synonymous with Halloween as pumpkin-orange is, and if you’re on the hunt for a cool black with true black undertones, Glidden’s Starless Sky is a beautiful choice. McCollum suggests pairing it with a white shade such as Delicate White, and says that together, the two are “a classic contrasting pair that can create a dramatic look and pair well with any pops of Halloween decor.”

Golden Mustard Yellow
Warm up a cold October night with Farrow & Ball’s deep mustard shade of India Yellow. “Inspired by the flickering flames of storm lamps lit on porches, this rich ochre packs a punch”, says Patrick O’Donnell, the brand’s color consultant and brand ambassador. Given its saturation level, O’Donnell suggests using India Yellow in a small space such as a bathroom, saying, “It’s a luxurious choice for a bathroom where its amber glow will ripple warmth through lit candles for the ultimate relaxing soak”.

Dusty Violet
Glidden’s Positively Purple is a dusty violet paint color with mauve undertones that give it cozy warmth. McCollum recommends this muted shade to create an eerie and mysterious atmosphere and suggests playing up the Halloween theme by pairing the color with pops of the brand’s Starless Sky.

Creamy White
Wevet by Farrow & Ball couldn’t be more appropriate for Halloween, as O’Donnell shares that it takes its name from the Dorset dialect’s term for spider webs. “Wevet is one of our cleanest whites,” he says. “With the softest gray notes, it is a great option for a classic trim color.”

Purple with Gray Undertones
Somewhere between purple and gray, you’ll find the exquisite shade of Blue Blood. “It’s a regal purple with a dignified gray undertone that delivers on the mystical elements Halloween can bring,” Woelfel says. Use this shade as a backdrop for your next Halloween party or use it in the living room to complement a Halloween fireplace.
